A swift response by Plooysburg police on Wednesday afternoon led to the arrest of a man for the alleged illegal hunting of protected game within a local Nature Reserve.
Authorities were alerted to the situation after receiving a complaint at approximately 1:50 PM on September 17, 2025. Police units were dispatched to the reserve immediately.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 34-year-old male suspect in the act of slaughtering a kudu. A further search of the vicinity revealed the carcass of a duiker, another protected antelope species.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene. He has been charged with contravening the Nature Conservation Act 9 of 2009, which prohibits the hunting of protected animals without the requisite permit.
Police have confirmed that a second individual believed to be involved fled the scene and remains at large. An active search for the second suspect is ongoing.
