multi-day joint operation targeting counterfeit and illicit goods has resulted in the seizure of items valued at over R19 million. The operation was conducted by the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit together with Brand Protectors from 02 to 05 December 2025.
The raids focused on locations in Johannesburg Central, the wider Johannesburg District, and Soshanguve in the Tshwane District. Authorities searched a total of six shops and one storage facility.
In Johannesburg Central, officials confiscated 20,680 counterfeit items with an estimated street value of R18,841,660. The seized goods included makeup, clothing, shoes, watches, and consumables.
A separate operation in Soshanguve led to the seizure of 793 counterfeit items, valued at R479,310. The haul consisted of clothing, cellphone accessories, and consumables.
