Interprovincial Roadblock conducted on the N8 near Kimberly

The MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport (CSR&T)Mr Jabu Mbalula attended a successful roadblock on the N8 near Kimberly.

The MEC was joined by the Premier of the Free State Province Ms MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae.

The roadblock was part of Festive Season Plan aimed at ensuring that everyone arrive safely to their final destinations.

Free State Provincial Traffic Management organized the roadblock and was inconjuction with Kimberly Law Enforcers since the two Provinces are sharing borders.

During the operation 580 vehicles were stopped. 75 fines were issued. It was also discovered that 18 vehicles had expired disc and five motorists driving without a driving licenses.

Four vehicles were impounded. Additionally, 16 illigal immigrants were arrested for contravening Immigration Act.

MEC Mbalula cautioned motorists to adhere with the following:
– Do not drink and drive
– Wear seats belts
– Rest after every 2 hours to avoid fatigue
– Ensure your vehicles is roadworthy before taking any trip

MEC encouraged all road users to take responsibility for safety all the times emphasising that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
