A foreign national was arrested late on Tuesday night after members of the West Coast District Flying Squad discovered over 2,000 mandrax tablets concealed in his bag during a roadblock on the N7.
The incident occurred at approximately 23:30 on 10 March 2026, at the Klawer Weigh Bridge. Police officers, who were collaborating with Provincial Traffic officials during a vehicle checkpoint operation, stopped a taxi traveling from the direction of Cape Town.
During a routine search of the vehicle, officers observed a male suspect attempting to hide a plastic bag inside a grey jacket. Upon seizing the bag, police discovered 2,045 mandrax tablets. The illicit drugs have an estimated street value of R102,250.
The suspect, who was found to be in the country illegally, was arrested on charges of drug dealing and contravention of the Immigration Act. He is scheduled to appear in the Klawer Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
