Members of the Western Cape Flying Squad arrested three suspects on Wednesday following a high-speed chase that ended in Kalk Bay. The suspects were found in possession of stolen property, including an elephant tusk.
According to police, the Flying Squad responded to an alert regarding a grey Honda BRV spotted on the Main Road in Muizenberg. The vehicle was linked to a robbery that had just occurred in Claremont, as well as a theft incident earlier this month in Wynberg.
Upon locating the vehicle, officers initiated a pursuit. The suspects drove towards Gordon Road in Kalk Bay, traveling against oncoming traffic, with Flying Squad members in chase. The pursuit concluded when the suspects’ vehicle left the road, suffering burst tyres and a deployed airbag.
Inside the vehicle were two male suspects, aged 58, and a 31-year-old female. A search of the vehicle revealed two recently stolen mag wheels, reportedly taken from a motor vehicle in Muizenberg, and an elephant tusk.
The three individuals were arrested on multiple charges, including theft from a motor vehicle, possession of presumed stolen property, robbery, general theft, and contravention of the Nature and Environmental Conservation Ordinance Act 19 of 1974.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Muizenberg Magistrate’s Court once formal charges have been laid.
