Fuel Stop Leads to Drug Arrest for Off-Duty Officer

An off-duty police captain attached to the Poffader SAPS proved that officers are never truly off duty when his vigilance led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and the seizure of narcotics on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at approximately 18:30 on 3 March 2026, while the captain was refueling his private vehicle at a fuel station in Kakamas. During this time, he observed a group of individuals alighting from a nearby vehicle and recognized one of them as a well-known drug dealer in the area.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the suspect retrieved a package and attempted to conceal it beneath his feet. A subsequent search of the individual led to the discovery of Mandrax tablets and Tik.

The illicit substances have an estimated combined street value of R6 500.

A 42-year-old foreign national was arrested at the scene and has been charged with dealing in drugs. The accused is expected to appear before the local magistrate’s court in due course.
