Forensic Breakthrough Leads to Arrest in Case

A major development has occurred in the investigation into the murder of 73-year-old Senyora Mofokeng, following the arrest of a suspect by the Arlington Detective Service. The breakthrough came after forensic results from the SAPS Forensic Laboratory provided a positive link between the suspect and the crime scene.

The case began on 5 December 2023, when Mofokeng was found deceased inside her home, where she lived alone. She had last been seen alive by neighbours and community members two days prior, on 3 December 2023, after collecting her pension money.

A post-mortem examination later confirmed that the elderly victim had sustained two fatal stab wounds to the neck and chest, prompting the opening of a murder case.

Police investigators established that a struggle had taken place between Mofokeng and the suspect during an apparent house robbery. The Local Criminal Record Centre collected valuable evidence from the scene, which provided crucial clues. Despite these efforts, the pension money she had collected was never recovered.

The investigation reached a critical point with the receipt of the conclusive forensic results. This morning, police immediately launched a tracing operation which resulted in the suspect’s arrest.

The suspect now faces charges of house robbery and murder. He is scheduled to make his first appearance before the Reitz Magistrate’s Court.
