
Police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested a foreign national after finding drugs worth an estimated R8 million in his possession at a residential complex in Somerset Park on Monday, 23 March 2026.
According to police, intelligence led to the identification of a man suspected of drug dealing. Authorities conducted continuous surveillance on the premises where the suspect was believed to be residing. Shortly after midnight on Monday, the suspect was spotted carrying a backpack at a residential complex on Ilchester Avenue, Canterbury, in the Somerset Park area.
Police stopped the man and, upon searching the backpack, found a substance believed to be “gold cocaine” weighing nearly 7 kg, with an estimated street value of R8 million. Officers also seized an undisclosed amount of cash and three cellphones from the suspect.
A 62-year-old man was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and possession of drugs. He is scheduled to appear before the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 23 March 2026.
