n a high-intensity operation predicated on intelligence, five suspects were shot and killed in a shootout with police officers at the Pump House informal settlement in the early hours of Monday morning, 08 September 2025.
The operation was launched to apprehend individuals wanted for a series of serious crimes across multiple communities. The suspects were sought in connection with cases of murder, house robberies, extortion, and the possession of unlicensed firearms allegedly committed in the areas of Mpumalanga township, Mariannhill, KwaNdengezi, and Umsunduzi.
Following the intelligence, police located the suspects’ hideout in Chatsworth. Upon the officers announcing their arrival, the suspects immediately responded by opening fire, spraying a hail of bullets towards them. This initiated a shootout during which all five suspects were shot and fatally wounded. No police officers sustained any injuries during the exchange.
A subsequent search of the scene led to the recovery of three firearms from the suspects’ possession, one of which was identified as a homemade gun. The deceased suspects are believed to be between the ages of 17 and their early to mid-twenties.
Police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
