Family Demands Answers After Grade 12 Pupil Stabbed to Death by Schoolmates in Mpumalanga

Tjakastad, Mpumalanga – The family of 19-year-old Mncedisi Nhlapho, a Grade 12 pupil who was allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow learner, is demanding justice after the brutal attack that has left the small village of Tjakastad in mourning.

Nhlapho was on his way home from school when he was attacked by a group of schoolmates. Five teenage boys have since been arrested in connection with his murder.

The tragedy has highlighted growing concerns over youth violence and gang activity in the area. Community members say young boys, some of whom are students, have been terrorizing residents, with gang recruitment becoming an increasing problem.

Community in Shock, Calls for Action

As mourners gathered to support the grieving Nhlapho family, many expressed frustration over the deteriorating safety in their community.

Recent crime statistics released by the Mpumalanga police reveal a troubling trend, with 274 murders recorded in the province between January and March this year alone.

Police Vow to Improve School Safety

Provincial police have promised to intensify efforts to protect learners and teachers, emphasizing the need for school safety programs.

“It is continuously taking place at the school that we have this type of incident,” said a police representative. “We must have awareness campaigns and school safety programs to address these issues.”

Authorities also raised concerns about parental responsibility, questioning how students are able to carry weapons like knives to school without their families’ knowledge.

Funeral Arrangements Underway

Mncedisi Nhlapho will be laid to rest on Sunday as the community seeks answers and calls for an end to youth violence.

For now, Tjakastad remains a village in pain, grappling with the loss of yet another young life to senseless brutality.
