Elderly Suspect in Hospital After Fatal Shooting

A 73-year-old man is under police guard in a hospital following a shooting incident that left one man dead and another injured at a business premises in the Potchefstroom Industrial area on Monday morning.

The altercation occurred at approximately 10:45 on 10 November 2025. According to police reports, the elderly suspect was in a meeting with the business management when he allegedly produced a firearm and opened fire, shooting multiple times towards two brothers.

The victims have been identified as 52-year-old Johnathen Robbert Fourie and his 55-year-old brother.

Emergency and Medical Services (EMS) personnel pronounced Johnathen Fourie dead at the scene. His brother sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he was admitted.

The situation was brought under control when security personnel on the scene reacted to the gunfire. They managed to restrain the 73-year-old suspect after he was also shot during the confrontation.

The suspect remains in hospital under police supervision. He is expected to be formally charged with murder and attempted murder upon his release and will make his initial appearance in the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court.
