Police in Mpumalanga are investigating a double murder after a husband and wife were fatally shot in their home near Hazyview.
The victims have been identified as a couple aged 45 and aged 35, who were partners living together. The incident occurred at approximately midnight inside their residence, where the couple was with their three children.
Two of the children were in a separate room at the time of the shooting, while the youngest, a five-year-old boy, was with his parents. The child reportedly went to inform neighbors in the morning after the attack. A neighbor, unable to initially believe the child’s account, went to the house and discovered the bodies lying in a pool of blood.
Family members confirmed that both victims were shot in the chest. Relatives described the couple as kind individuals, expressing deep shock and grief over the unexpected tragedy. No motive for the shooting has been established, and there are currently no clues pointing to the perpetrator(s).
Community members and the local community policing forum noted that such violent incidents are becoming more common in the area, despite ongoing efforts to collaborate with police on safety initiatives. Concerns were raised that no one in the vicinity reported hearing gunshots or any suspicious activity, leaving investigators with limited leads.
No arrests have been made so far, and police are finding it challenging to track down suspects. Support is being provided to the affected family, and the community has been left stunned by the news, with many people initially gathering at the scene.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo is expected to provide further details on the investigation as it progresses. Authorities continue to appeal for any information that could assist in solving the case.
