A man and a woman from Delft have been arrested on charges of possessing a prohibited firearm and dealing in drugs following a raid on their residence in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Members of the National Intervention Unit (NIU) acted on intelligence regarding suspected illegal activities at a property on Mulanje Street in the Matroosfontein area. Upon searching the premises, officers discovered a 9mm pistol with its serial number removed, along with eight rounds of live ammunition.
During the same operation, authorities confiscated 648 sachets of crystal meth. The illicit drugs have an estimated street value of R28,420.00.
The suspects, identified as a 41-year-old man and his 25-year-old girlfriend, were taken into custody at the scene. They are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once formal charges have been filed.
