Bloemfontein High Court Sentences Man to 12 Years for 2021 Murder

The Bloemfontein High Court has sentenced 26-year-old Morena Samson Moleko to 12 years of direct imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, bringing closure to a case dating back to December 2021.

The court proceedings stem from an incident on 21 December 2021. At approximately 09:00, members of the Botshabelo SAPS Community Service Centre received a phone call from a man alleging that he had killed his partner. During the call, the individual directed police to a shack in M Section, Botshabelo, where officers discovered the body of 28-year-old Maleshoane Majola.

The caller identified himself as Morena Samson Moleko to the authorities before fleeing the scene, initiating a lengthy manhunt. Following an extended investigation and tracing operations, South African Police Service (SAPS) members apprehended the suspect on 26 June 2025 at an informal settlement in Germiston, Gauteng.

Moleko subsequently appeared before the Bloemfontein High Court, where he entered a guilty plea to the charge of murder. The court handed down a sentence of 12 years of effective imprisonment
