Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) dispatched multiple units to the scene of a Robbery this morning (Thursday) in Grangetown – KZN, leading to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of a weapon used in the crime.
The RUSA Operations Center received calls of the robbery at 08:58 and arrived on scene at 09:00. Reaction Officers secured entrances and exits to several storm water pipes leading to streams in the area, while an Officer interviewed a female who was robbed on Palm Street.
Information received indicated that an armed suspect approached a 39-year-old female outside a residence and robbed her of a mobile phone. A male attempted to approach the suspect, who produced a large dagger and fled on foot. Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search of the area and found the suspect hiding inside a smaller storm water pipe. He produced a knife when approached. Officers tackled him to the ground, removed the weapon (picture 2) and forcefully handcuffed him. A gold Huawei was found concealed in his underwear.
The victim positively identified the 26-year-old suspect, who was handed over to the South African Police Services (SAPS).
