A 22-year-old man is set to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 March 2026, following his arrest for the alleged rape of a 17-year-old Grade 10 learner.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, 14 March 2026. The victim had attended extra lessons at a school outside Seshego. After the lessons, she and a friend were dropped off at Seshego Plaza, where they met with other learners and decided to purchase food at a village near Seshego.
The group subsequently accepted a lift from the suspect, who was known to them. He dropped the other learners off along the route home, as they all reside in a suburb in Polokwane. However, he allegedly remained alone with the victim and drove to Seshego Park, where he raped her.
It is alleged that the suspect then drove the victim to Seshego Plaza and offered her money to remain silent. The victim refused the bribe and contacted her relatives. They took her to the Seshego Police Station, where a case of rape was opened.
The suspect was swiftly arrested while at a local car wash.
The Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit is investigating the matter.
