A 33-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a string of business robberies targeting filling stations across the Sekhukhune and Capricorn Districts.
Members of the Sekhukhune District Tracking and Investigation Team apprehended the suspect on Friday, 13 March 2026, during an intelligence-driven operation. According to police, the operation followed up on information regarding a suspect believed to be part of a syndicate responsible for multiple business robberies in the area.
The breakthrough came when investigators linked the suspect to a cellphone reportedly taken during a robbery in Apel in November 2025. Acting on this information, police traced the suspect to Marishane, Polaseng Section, which falls under the Nebo SAPS policing area.
Upon searching the suspect, police recovered a firearm loaded with ten live rounds of ammunition. Preliminary investigations have since linked him to multiple robberies, including three incidents at filling stations in the Burgersfort policing area and others in Polokwane.
Further evidence was uncovered when authorities found two head caps in the suspect’s possession. These caps are believed to have been worn during the commission of the robberies, as they were visible in CCTV footage captured at filling stations in Bendor (Polokwane) and Burgersfort.
The 33-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear before the Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 16 March 2026. He faces charges of business robbery, as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are anticipated as efforts to dismantle the suspected criminal syndicate continue.
