Regional Court Sentences Man to 10 Years for 2023 Murder

The Lehurutshe Regional Court has sentenced a 49-year-old man to a decade in prison for a fatal assault that occurred in 2023.

On Tuesday, 10 March 2026, the court convicted and sentenced Olefile Sefuno for the murder of Tebogo Patrick Senatle (28). The incident took place in Dinokana Village, near Lehurutshe.

According to the evidence presented, Senatle was taken to a local health centre on Tuesday, 14 November 2023, suffering from head injuries. He succumbed to those injuries the following day, Wednesday, 15 November 2023, while receiving treatment at Lehurutshe Hospital.

The investigation revealed that the assault stemmed from a dispute over a financial debt. Earlier on the day of the assault, Sefuno and Senatle were involved in a physical altercation at a local tavern. During the fight, Sefuno demanded R100 that he claimed Senatle owed him. Sefuno struck Senatle on the head with an unknown object before fleeing the scene.

Senatle lost consciousness following the blow but later regained awareness. He managed to inform a witness about the assault before being transported for medical care. This witness subsequently provided information to the police that led to Sefuno’s arrest.

Sefuno admitted to committing the act, stating that it was unintentional. He was denied bail and remained in custody from his arrest in 2023 until his sentencing. On 10 March 2026, the court handed down a sentence of ten years’ imprisonment for the murder conviction.

Following the sentencing, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, commended the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Thabo Tshweu, for his work on the case.
