Teen Arrested in Wesbank Following Shooting, Police Find Firearm

A 16-year-old male suspect was arrested on Sunday, 08 March 2026, in connection with a shooting incident in Wesbank.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, members from Crime Intelligence, the Anti-Gang Unit, and the Tactical Response Team (TRT) were conducting a search for a firearm at a house in Fernkloof Street. During the operation, officers heard gunshots fired from outside, which authorities believe may have been an attempt to distract them.

Later that day, at approximately 14:00, TRT and Anti-Gang Unit members followed up on credible intelligence regarding the shooting. While patrolling in Fernkloof Street, they spotted the 16-year-old suspect running and gave chase. The suspect entered a yard, where he was apprehended by officers.

A subsequent search revealed the suspect was in possession of a .357 Magnum CTG firearm. He was arrested on the spot for possession of an unlicensed firearm. Once charged, he will appear in the Bluedowns Magistrate’s Court.
