On Tuesday morning, 03 March 2026, a joint operation led by the Special Task Force (STF) and the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS) resulted in the arrest of seven individuals suspected of planning to bomb an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).
According to authorities, the arrests were made based on intelligence received by the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section regarding a planned ATM bombing in the Klerksdorp Central Business District (CBD). Law enforcement intervened before the suspects could execute the alleged plot.
During the operation, which took place in Klerksdorp, officers recovered one rifle, one pistol, and explosives. The seven suspects, whose ages range from 30 to 58, are scheduled to appear before the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.
They face charges related to the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, conspiracy to commit a crime, and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
