Public Order Policing members attached to Operation Shanela II arrested a 26-year-old male for possession of drugs on 23 February 2026.
At 14:30, members were patrolling the Athlone SAPS precinct when they received information of a person selling drugs at a premises in Newtown Block 26. Members operationalised the information and approached the house, where a search ensued.
Members found the suspect in possession of 60 packets of tik, 15 mandrax tablets, one big sachet containing cocaine, and two small sachets of cocaine. The suspect was arrested and will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s court once charged.
