Two Arrested for Illegal Firearms and Drugs

Public Order Police officers arrested two suspects on Monday morning following a tip-off from community members in the New Culture informal settlement in Khayelitsha.

The officers, who were conducting routine crime prevention duties, were approached by residents reporting suspects involved in robberies. Acting on the information, police proceeded to an informal dwelling, where they conducted a search.

Inside the premises, officers recovered an R5 assault rifle with ten rounds of ammunition, an imitation firearm, and five mandrax tablets.

Two suspects, aged 26 and 30, were arrested on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, possession of an imitation firearm, and possession of drugs.

Both are scheduled to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once formally charged.
