An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested following the murder of a 4-year-old boy in Walmer on Sunday, March 22, 2026.
According to South African Police Service (SAPS) reports, officers responded to a murder complaint at a residence on Tshanga Street in the Walmer location at approximately 1:45 a.m. Upon arrival, first responders found the body of a 4-year-old boy lying in a pool of blood inside the house. Both the victim and the suspect are foreign nationals.
Preliminary investigations indicate the child was sleeping in a separate room with his older brother. Police state that the parents became concerned, went to check on the children, and discovered the boy covered in blood. The parents subsequently contacted the police.
An 18-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene. He is expected to face a charge of murder.
The motive for the incident remains unknown and is part of ongoing investigations.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court later this week.
